New to digital photography? In this virtual class, develop the technical foundations of a well-rounded photographer. We’ll explore artistic technique, exposure, camera skills, and equipment settings. The perfect course for those curious about f-stops, shutter speeds, and the mysterious buttons on your new camera.

This online course includes more than 4 hours of video content, divided into bite-sized tutorials that tackle all of the most important fundamentals for new photographers to master. Tutorials are arranged in such a way that students can work through them in the order presented, or digest them a la carte, depending on individual goals and experience.

  • Those who are among the first to register will also be able to submit questions and points of confusion that will be answered via a video FAQ series developed from student feedback.

ADDITIONAL INFO

The course is arranged in three sections:

Section 1 is about the fundamentals of exposure. First, we discuss the concept of the Exposure Triangle. Then, we dive individually into each of the three sides of the triangle: shutter speed, aperture, and ISO. Additional content in this section focuses on finding these settings on a variety of cameras, and putting the concepts into practice.

Section 2 focuses on more of the camera settings and buttons that are important to new photographers, such as autofocus mode, autofocus area, shutter drive, white balance, metering modes, and more. The section finishes with a few in-the-field examples where we narrate every component, setting, and intention behind a series of photographs.

Section 3 is an ever-expanding “grab bag” of mini-tutorials about various concepts and common questions. These a la carte tutorials include instruction on macro photography, camera types, equipment, posture, and more. This section grows based on student curiosity and questions. If you are taking this course, please do not hesitate to reach out if there is a concept about which you’d like additional instruction.
